L'ESO, c'est un des plus importants pôles de recherches et d'observations astronomiques au monde avec 4 sites localisés dans le désert d'Atacama au Chili. Il est le résultat d'une colossale coopération entre 16 états (dont 15 Européens) qui ont permis notament de concevoir le plus grand télescope terrestre interférométrique : le Very Large Telescope (VLT).

Qu'est-ce que l'évènement #MeetESO ?
Afin de promouvoir ces lieux scientifiques d'exceptions au grand public, l'ESO a sélectionné, au travers du concours MeetESO, un groupe de 8 personnes qui auront l'unique opportunité de visiter ses observatoires, à près de 5 000 mètres d'altitude, sous le plus beau ciel du monde.
Ces "lucky 8" (les 8 chanceux), choisis selon leur apptitude à parler anglais et leur investissement dans le domaine astronomique sur le web (twitter, facebook) seront sur place du 7 au 12 mai 2016 et partageront leur aventure en direct via leurs comptes twitter, facebook, instagram ..etc
Une fois, sur-place, leur programme sera très intense : visite du VLT, visite de l'ALMA, observation du ciel, observation du transit de Mercure le 9 mai (quelle chance !), présentations...etc.
L'ESO prend ses hôtes à ses frais, mais le billet d'avion pour se rendre à Santiago devait être payé par les visiteurs.

L'atout majeur de ce #MeetESO est basé sur le partage instantanné que peuvent réaliser les réseaux sociaux aujourd'hui.
En particulier deux passionnés d'Astronomie Français, Anne Grudzien et Loic Bommersbach participeront à ce voyage.

What is #MeetESO ?
In order to promote these scientific places of exceptions to the general public, the ESO has selected, through the MeetESO competition, a group of 8 people who will have the unique opportunity to visit its observatories, at almost 5,000 meters altitude. , under the most beautiful sky in the world.
These "lucky 8" (lucky 8), chosen according to their ability to speak English and their investment in astronomy on the web (twitter, facebook) will be on site from 7 to 12 May 2016 and will share their adventure live via their twitter accounts, facebook, instagram ..etc
Once, on-site, their program will be very intense: visit of the VLT, visit of the ALMA, observation of the sky, observation of the transit of Mercury on May 9 (what luck!), Presentations ... etc.

Anne (@cpamoa) is an assiduous anglophone and francophone blogger, charmed by space. Her blog shows it at first glance. She was in particular the French translator of the diary of the Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti during her stay in the ISS.
Loïc is also passionate about astronomy, both in terms of space technologies and sciences of the Universe. It is this passion that led him to become Community Manager at CNRS. You will find a very complete article on his career here.
